Emergency Warning System for Tarleton State University
New state law requires mandatory Code Purple registration for campus
A new state law requires all Tarleton State University students, faculty and staff to be registered in the Code Purple emergency notification system, beginning in the spring semester.
Currently, signing up for Code Purple is voluntary, but Texas House Bill 2758 requires mandatory registration for campus employees and students. However, any faculty, staff or student can opt-out of the required service at any time.
Code Purple is a mass-notification system that can send time-sensitive alerts to students, staff and faculty via text messages on their cell phones, wireless PDAs, text pagers, e-mail, RSS or Internet home pages.
In order to ensure that all students, faculty, and staff are registered, all existing accounts within Code Purple will be deleted.
On the thirteenth class day all Tarleton issued email addresses will be used to create a Code Purple account to satisfy the new law.
In late January, an email will be forwarded to members of the campus community providing special instructions to add cell phone numbers or other email addresses to each individual account.
The state-of-the-art emergency notification system is designed to notify individuals of closings or delays due to weather, crime or other events that pose a threat to those on or coming to campus.
