FAQs
Why should I give to Tarleton State University?
Tarleton's budget has grown with its student body, the expansion of its mission, its commitment to excellence, and the desires of the public to see highly educated, technically proficient graduates in the workforce. However, state funding has not grown accordingly. Gifts to the University allow it to grow in ways that basic funding cannot accomplish. Private gifts allow for programs that state funding doesn't, or can't, such as scholarships, special acquisitions, equipment purchases, or for the creation of endowments.
Can my gift make a difference?
Although it might seem like a gift of $5 or $100 wouldn't have that much impact, every gift adds to the total pool of monies available to the University or to a department. If ten donors give $100, a $1,000 award can be made to an outstanding undergraduate, for example, in an academic program.
Why does Tarleton need private funds when it receives public dollars from the state?
Despite Tarleton's designation as a state-supported university, it continues to receive less and less of its operating monies from the State of Texas. The remainder comes from student tuition and fees and donors.
Can I designate the use of my gift?
Absolutely: it's your money. However, unrestricted monies can make the difference to underserved programs, programs without an alumni base (like the library, for example), or to help create new programs.
Is my gift tax-deductible?
Yes, as permissible by law.
