Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions Requirements
Students new to Tarleton State University-Central Texas are required to complete applications for admission, then make an appointment with an academic adviser to review degree plans. You are welcome to visit our campus at
1901 South Clear Creek Road in Killeen.
All admissions forms are PDF files, to view download and install Adobe Reader.

Undergraduate Admissions Requirements:
- Must have completed a minimum of 30 hours of transferable college credit with an overall 2.0 GPA
- Passed all sections of THEA Test or be exempt (find out if you're exempt)
- After meeting the above requirements, the following items must be submitted:
- 4-year Transfer/Transient/Readmit application (ApplyTexas Application)
- A $30 non-refundable processing fee
- Final official transcripts from all previous colleges and universities attended (MUST BE IN SEALED ENVELOPES)
- THEA scores or official proof of exemption
- Students may request exemption from the Texas Success Initiative requirements (THEA) by completing the Texas Success Initiative Exemption Form and meeting the following criteria:
- Active duty members serving in the Armed Forces of the United States or the Texas National Guard
- Students who are currently serving as a member of a reserve component of the Armed Forces of the United States, and have served for three years preceding enrollment (excludes reserves of the Texas National Guard)
- Students who, on or after August 1, 1990, were honorably discharged, retired or released from:
- Active duty as a member of the Armed Forces of the United States or the Texas National Guard
- Or served as a member of a reserve component of the Armed Forces of the United States (excludes reserves of the Texas National Guard)
- Proof of residency (Active Duty members and their dependents who did not enter the military from Fort Hood and are stationed at Ft. Hood may use the Active Duty Military/Dependent Certification Form to prove residency.)

Graduate Admissions Requirements:
- Submit graduate application.
- Pay a $25 non-refundable processing fee.
- Provide official transcripts from all previous colleges and universities (MUST BE IN SEALED ENVELOPES).
- Provide GRE or GMAT scores.
- Provide proof of residency (if requested).
- Submit a 200-300-word essay addressing professional and career goals.
Beyond these general requirements for admission to the College of Graduate Studies, departments may set additional standards for admission to degree programs as necessary, subject to administrative approval.
Tarleton State University College of Graduate Studies
Admission as a Non-Degree Student
Applicants who designate that they do not choose to seek a graduate degree but who hold a baccalaureate degree may be enrolled for course work in the College of Graduate Studies as Special non-degree-seeking graduate students. Students in this category waive the right to count more than 6 hours toward an advanced degree at Tarleton State University. In order to have any graduate course work count toward a master's degree, students must meet admission criteria to the College of Graduate Studies at the time application is made.
