370-3 An Introduction to Linguistics. (3-0)

A study of descriptive linguistics revealing the nature and scope of the characteristics and complexities of human language. Much of the course consists of learning the phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics of modern English. Attention will also be focused on the nature and diversity of the rule-bound creativity underlying the tacit systematic use of human language.

Prerequisite Course(s):
ENGL 111: Introduction to College Composition

ENGL 112: College Composition and Research
and 6 hours sophomore ENGL.
