Grey Rhetoric

J. Paul Butler

Release from simple pleasures
Check your inhibitions at the door
Forget yesterday and tomorrow
Do not dwell on thoughts of recourse
Measure not your worth, but only your desire
Strange passions from beneath
Beckon for blackened cures
Believe what I say and not what I do
What underlying recompenses do you seek?
I can give them to you
Do you seek that which is true and just?
I can reveal it to you
Dreams want more than fate permits
I cannot give you answers
But advice I offer
Take it or leave it, I don’t really care
What does tomorrow offer?
