THE DIVIDED STATE OF AMERICA

Matthew Smith

I live in a world of contradiction

Men praise a god of mercy, but butcher in his name

We boast equality, but strive to separate ourselves from others

I live in a world where paper means more than blood

I live in a free world where slavery knows no limit

Where love conquers all, but hatred wields dominion

I live in a world that shouts unity from the rafters, but divides at every turn

Where knowledge is power and liability

Where humanity is obscenity

Where there is no tolerance for understanding

I live in a world where a fear of death consumes all life

A world of order born of and barreling towards all consuming chaos

A world capable of marvelous beauty, but content with unparalleled ugliness
