Through Othello’s Eyes

Danny Knowles

Dampness underfoot, weaving through the trees
Further I tread, deep into the unknown.
Darkness surrounds me, this day I must seize
With each step, a cloak of courage is sewn.

Tightly I wrap it, tucked beneath my chin,
Unsheathed, my confidence becomes a sword.
Defeat surely comes from conflict within,
A victory must lie in the knowledge stored.

Let it confirm my fears or strike them dead,
My vow to recapture what once was mine.
Dare the beast to reveal its angry head
Battle begins—on its heart I shall dine!

The monster, green eyed, tearing at my soul,
Will I ever regain the love it stole?
