The Morning After

Kristy Rosen

In the earliest hours of morning, she is kept awake by the

thought that the night will never repeat itself.

It is no mistake she will probably regret;

But at the moment she doesn’t care, it feels too right.

Quietly she gets up and starts to gather her belongings;

Bun not quietly enough for he looks out at her with

Confused, sleep-filled eyes.

An embarrassing silence fills the car as he drives her home;

So much to say, no words to say it.

He calls her name as she walks away; to sever all ties,

She turns around for one last glance.

Then she turns and runs away from him and his voice,

Blocking it out so it cannot destroy the memory

By insincere words meant to be an apology.
