Animal Science
Tarleton's animal science option provides a strong foundation in the scientific aspects (the "whys" and "hows") of animal production, nutrition, reproduction, anatomy and physiology.
The animal science programs are designed for hands-on participation during laboratory courses. Cattle are developed for class work on grading, selection, and breed improvement.
A swine herd helps faculty to explain and you to experience pork production management. Sheep, horses, a poultry flock and a dairy herd of milking cows with replacement heifers are also used for laboratory experience.
These livestock features give strong support of the hands-on training for students that have had little or no association with the production phases of livestock.
Supporting course work in chemistry, biology and mathematics provide you with the background necessary to understand the complex physiological and biological phenomena that explain why and how animals function and perform.
