Director of Academic Assessment

Dr. Gay Wakefield is director of academic assessment for the Office of Academic Affairs at Tarleton State University and an associate professor in the Department of Communication Studies, where she coordinates the Public Relations & Event Management area. Involved in the assessment movement since the mid-1970s, Dr. Wakefield developed a special project titled "Education by Objectives" while completing her doctorate in secondary and higher education curriculum, planning, and instruction. She came to Tarleton after a decade at TCU, directing assessment for the Neeley School of Business and also directing the Center for Professional Communication. She co-edited the National Communication Association's 2010 book on communication assessment and has dozens of additional publications and presentations to her credit. Dr. Wakefield has been named an Honored Member of Strathmore's Who's Who Registry of Business Leaders, and was proclaimed an International Woman of the Year. She has been listed in such publications as the International Who's Who of Professionals, International Who’s Who of Professional & Business Women, Who's Who in the World, International Authors and Writers Who's Who, The World's Who's Who of Women, and Who's Who in American Education.
