Schedule of Events: August 17-24, 2013

When you arrive for Transition Week, you will be assigned to a small group of other new students to share the week's experiences with. You will also be assigned a Texan Transition Mentor (TTM) who will guide you throughout the week.

Saturday

August 17

Saturday's events are reserved for students who are participating in Tarleton's Learning Communities. These students will be contacted by Residential Living & Learning concerning the following events:

  • Learning Community Move-In
  • Learning Community Pinning Ceremony/Passing of the Pen
  • Learning Community Dessert Reception
  • Learning Community Rotation Sessions & Dinner

Sunday

August 18

On Sunday you will settle into your new residence hall and participate in several events with your families before getting to know your fellow group members.

  • New Student Move-In
  • 4 p.m. - Commuter Check-In
  • 5 p.m. - Passing of the Pen
    (Families welcome!)
  • 6 p.m. - Transition Picnic
    (Families welcome!)
  • 8 p.m. - Group Time
  • 9 p.m. - All Class Rally
  • 10 p.m. - Texan Color Festival

Monday

August 19

Your Tarleton academic journey begins on Monday with your first FYS course. Later in the day, check out Rec Fest!

  • 7:30 a.m. - Breakfast
  • 9 a.m. - FYS course
  • 11 a.m. Lunch/Break
  • 1 p.m. - Student Engagement Session (for select groups)
  • 2 p.m. - Academic Success Lab
  • 5 p.m. - Dinner
  • 5 p.m. - Rec Fest
  • 8 p.m. - Student Life Conference Rotations

Tuesday

August 20

On Tuesday, you will continue gaining the tools for academic success.

  • 7:30 a.m. - Breakfast
  • 9 a.m. - FYS course
  • 11 a.m. - Lunch/Break
  • 1 p.m. - Student Engagement Session (for select groups)
  • 2 p.m. - Academic Success Lab
  • 5 p.m. - Dinner
  • 8 p.m. - Student Life Conference Rotations

Wednesday

August 21

As the week hits the halfway mark, you'll get a chance to meet your faculty and peers from you academic college and/or department.

  • 7:30 a.m. - Breakfast
  • 9 a.m. - FYS course
  • 11 a.m. - Lunch/Break
  • 1 p.m. - Student Engagement Session (for select groups)
  • 2 p.m. - All Class Rally
  • 3 p.m. - Meet Your College (by major)
  • 5 p.m. - Dinner
  • 8 p.m. - Entertainment: Movie on the Lawn & Dueling Pianos

Thursday

August 22

On Thursday you will learn how to utilize your strengths to propel you to success. Also enjoy some friendly competition with Tarleton's Amazing Race!

  • 7:30 a.m. - Breakfast
  • 9 a.m. - FYS course
  • 10 a.m. - University Expectations/Core Values (for select groups)
  • 11 a.m. Rotation Sessions: Lunch & Student Philanthropy
  • 2 p.m. - Strengths info session
  • 3:30 p.m. - AlcoholEDU
  • 5 p.m. - Dinner
  • 6 p.m. - Tarleton's Amazing Race

Friday

August 23

As the week begins to wind down, explore how you can serve the community by attending the Volunteer Fair. Then the day winds down with some free live music and dancing!

  • 7:30 a.m. Breakfast
  • 9 a.m. - University Expectations/Core Values (for select groups)
  • 10 a.m. - University Expectations/Core Values (for select groups)
  • 11 a.m. - Lunch/Break
  • 11 a.m. - Volunteer Fair
  • 2 p.m. - All Class Rally
  • 3 p.m. - TexAnn Volleyball Scrimmage
  • 5 p.m. - Dinner
  • 10 p.m. - Street Dance feat. Six Market Blvd.

Saturday

August 24

Saturday is your chance to connect with current students and organizations at Tarleton. You'll also be introduced to TSU's great traditions and spirit.

  • 11:30 a.m. - Brunch
  • 1 p.m. - Community Expo & Organizational Fair
  • 1 p.m. - Group Time
  • 4:30 p.m. - Dinner/Break
  • 6:30 p.m. - Purple & White Football Scrimmage including chant lessons, pep rally and Texan Fest

Sunday

August 25

Sunday is the culmination of Transition Week when you will get to experience two of Tarleton's most treasured and moving traditions.

  • 11:30 a.m. Brunch
  • 4 p.m. - Rotation Sessions: Dinner & Convocation/Candle Lighting info session
  • 7 p.m. - Convocation
  • 8 p.m. - Candle Lighting Ceremony
  • 9 p.m. - Celebration!
