Academic Achievement

During this week, you will have the opportunity to meet with faculty and fellow classmates involved in your specific academic program and will be introduced to the resources available to ensure you thrive.

First Year Experience Course

The first-year seminar course (1100 - Transitioning to University Studies) is part of the required experiences for Tarleton first-time in college students. This course is designed to prepare students for university life, aid in the development of skills for academic success, promote personal growth and responsibility, and encourage active involvement in the learning process.

The first days of the course will occur on Tuesday and Wednesday during Transition Week. Through the course, students will meet and engage with faculty in their academic college to engage in learning experiences focused on social responsibility, critical thinking, communication, empirical/quantitative skills, financial literacy and discipline-specific knowledge. The course also consists of academic success and student life labs.

Academic Success Labs and Student Life Labs

In addition, students will engage in interactive learning experiences focused on Academic Success and Student Life by attending ten lab sessions during Transition Week focused on the following: Degreeworks, Blackboard/Computer Help Desk, study skills, diversity, library skills, career identification/exploration, Campus Clarity/Title 9, philanthropy, core values, and StrengthsQuest.
