Bulk Mail

Bulk Mail (Presorted Standard Mail) must have a minimum of 200 pieces. It usually consists of form letters or other printed pieces that are identical in content and weight. Each piece must weigh less than a pound.

Because it is geared toward business mail, Bulk Mail rates do not apply to correspondence such as personal letters and other types of mail as follows:

  1. Bills or invoices
  2. Statements of account
  3. Contracts
  4. Handwritten or typewritten matter
  5. Valuables
  6. Currency

If a piece of bulk mail is undeliverable, it is disposed of by the United States Postal Service (USPS), unless it has an ancillary service endorsement such as "Address Service Requested". There is an extra charge for this service by the USPS. Bulk mailings can also take longer to be delivered, because each bulk mail center has 72 hours to process it.

Each piece of mail must have a TSU return address with T-Box number and either have a permit imprint or be metered using a postage meter. The TSU post office has a stamp for applying the permit imprint. If you want us to meter the mail, you must call and schedule a time for the metering. Someone from the department must stay and assist with the metering. We schedule metering of bulk mail at 9:30 AM or 1:30 PM, Tuesday through Friday, in order not to interfere with the metering of first class mail. If you use the permit imprint, just bring the mail to the post office any time from 9AM to 4 PM. A "Metered Mail Authorization Form" is required with each type of mailing, with "Bulk Mail" written on the form. For the permit imprint mailing, the number of pieces of mail must be shown on the form.

Before bringing the bulk mailing to the TSU post office, the pieces must be in zip code order, from smallest to largest. If the envelopes are larger than letter size (max 6-1/8" x 11-1/2"), or open on the end, they must be sealed, because the machine will not seal them. If you use a permit imprint, the envelopes must be sealed before they are brought over. If you want us to seal them, you must call for an appointment and someone must stay to help with the sealing. Please do not use the letter size envelopes with the extra long flap, because our machine will not seal these correctly ( This is highly recommended, but not vital due to availability of envelopes at this time). When stuffing the envelopes, do not let the contents extend above the fold of the flap or the machine cannot seal them.
