Texan Shadow Overview - Students

  • Do you want first-hand knowledge of a "day in the life" of employees in any given career field?
  • Do you ever wonder "What would it be like to work for (you fill in the blank)?
  • Get first-hand experience "shadowing" a professional in the field  and geographical area of your choosing.
  • See how your textbook learning can be applied in the real world.
  • Learn a lot more about a company or career by experiencing it in the "trenches".
  • Sign up at Career Services and we will make the connection between you and a workplace mentor.

Getting Started and Requirements

  • First,  complete the online Student Application and determine your areas of interest, decide how far you are willing to travel, etc.
  • Once your application has been received, the system will automatically send you an email (from Megan Horry) with two attachments:
    1) "How To Texan Shadow" power point and
    2) Potential Texan Shadow Employer questions.
    If you do not receive a confirmation email, then your email address was typed incorrectly in the application. Contact Career Services, Megan Horry, 254.968.9663.
  • Then, review the "How to Texan Shadow" power point. You will need sound to adequately review the power point. You must pass the quiz at the end with a 80% or above. Once you have passed the quiz, Megan Horry will email you your grade and contact you to set up a face-to-face appointment to clarify your Texan Shadow interests and application.
  • Please allow at least 30 days for processing your placement after passing the quiz and meeting with Megan. If you have any questions or problems please contact Megan Horry at 254.968.9663.
  • things to consider:
    • Student Security: We will need to share the information (except student ID) contained in the application with the employer. Please make sure your contact information and all other areas is accurate and email address is professional.
    • It is the student's responsibility to travel to the workplace visit.
    • After the event, we ask that you provide us with detailed feedback on your experience
    • Students are only allowed one Texan Shadow placement per semester.
