Advising Students about Writing Intensive Courses
Student Requirements for Completing Writing Intensive Courses
Students enrolled at Tarleton before September 2007, were required to take the Writing Proficiency Exam. The Writing Proficiency Exam no longer exists, but there is still a Writing Proficiency Requirement for all Tarleton students. Students now meet this Writing Proficiency Requirement by completing two upper-level Writing Intensive courses in their major or designed for their degree plan.
Catalogue Course Designation Language:
A "WI" next to a course in the course catalog indicates that this course can fulfill a writing-intensive requirement. Students scheduling their courses in Banner can also conduct a search for courses with the attribute "WI" to bring up a list of all writing-intensive courses available that term.
Beyond this basic information, if students are having difficulty in a WI course, please discuss with them the extreme importance of being proficient writers in our culture and remind them that the University Writing Center is available to them to help them with any of their writing concerns.
