Steps for Achieving WI Designation

Steps for Achieving or Deleting WI Designation

Either faculty members or Department Heads can submit existing courses for WI approval. Be sure that your Department Head and your department’s two Curriculum Committee members know when you are sending a Writing Intensive course through the curriculum process. They will be notified that a Writing Intensive course is ready for their approval. This page also provides directions for removing a WI designation from a course.

Add a New Course with Writing Intensive Designation

  1. Follow all directions provided in “Add a New Course” in Program Management and Course Management within CIM (Curriculum Inventory Management).
  2. Additionally, be certain that the “Writing Intensive” radio box is checked.
  3. Respond to the four prompts in the “Writing Intensive Designation Area.”

(1) Indicate if the course will be limited to 25 students
(2) Briefly describe what about the course makes it a good choice to be developed as a Writing Intensive course.
(3) Indicate which academic programs will use this course to fulfill Writing Intensive requirements
(4) Indicate if the course is required for majors in your department.
(5) For the “Intended Student Outcomes” fields, be sure to fill in A (Knowledge Outcomes), B (Skills Outcomes), and D (Writing Outcomes). You might have Value Outcomes and Core Curriculum Objectives, but they are not required for all courses.
