General Information
Tarleton State University is happy to host the Spring Regional Meet of the University Interscholastic League, Region II, Conference AA.
We hope that you will find your stay at Tarleton rewarding. We extend to you a true Tarleton State University welcome and wish you and your students the best of luck in the Regional Meet.
Please be familiar with the following information.
Entries
The district director must certify the district winners to the regional director. Entries in all academic events and golf, tennis, and track and field events must be submitted to the regional director after district competition within 72 hours as indicated for each event. Academic entries must be certified in the spring meet online system.
Alternates - In case a qualified contestant is unable to participate in an event in the regional meet, it is the duty of the qualifier's designated administrator to notify the spring meet district director in writing. The spring meet district director shall contact the regional director as well as the next lower place finisher, who shall become qualified to represent the district. Alternates who are not taking the place of an absent qualifier shall not be allowed to participate in the competition.
A list of absent contestants will be reported to the state UIL office from each academic event. It is vitally important that you notify the regional director in advance if a contestant will be unable to attend the regional competition.
Fees
- Entry fees in the Academic contests, except One-Act Play, shall be $14 per contestant for each event entered. Fees for the Athletic events shall be $14 per contestant for each event.
- A fee of $400 will be assessed for each One-Act Play.
- Fees for golf will be an $14 entry fee per person, and a green fee of $30 each for a $44 total.
- All fees except One-Act Play are to be paid to the district chairman at the above rates with one check coming to regional for academic entries and two checks for athletic entries from the district chairman by the dates indicated in this handbook. One-Act Play fees of $400 for each play must be submitted to the Contest Manager on Friday, April 19, 2013 at the Directors meeting.
Meet Headquarters
Meet Headquarters for the regional academic meet will be in room 105-D of the Clyde Wells Fine Arts Center. The phone number for headquarters on this day will be 254-592-7690. Results of all academic contests and academic awards will be given at headquarters. The Regional Academic Championship will be awarded at the end of the contest day in 105-D of the Fine Arts Center. Results and awards for track and field, golf, and tennis will be given at the contest sites.
Medals, Plaques, and Trophies
Medals will be awarded for the first through sixth place in all academic events except One-Act Play and Lincoln-Douglas Debate. See page 10 for One-Act Play awards. A Regional Academic Championship Trophy will be awarded at the conclusion of the academic events.
A first place team trophy will be awarded in golf and track. Plaques will be awarded to top relay teams and medals will be awarded to the first three place winners in golf, tennis, and track and field.
All awards will be UIL standardized medals, plaques, and trophies.
Contest Results
It is the responsibility of the contestants and/or their coaches and school officials to obtain contest results. Please plan to be present for verification and awards for your event or have someone from your school present. Regional meet directors are under no obligation to contact winners who fail to attend the award meeting or to provide them with results.
Information regarding the 2013 UIL Academic State Meet is posted on the UIL web site at http://www.uiltexas.org/. Information packets will not be mailed to schools or handed out during the regional meet verification meetings or awards ceremonies,except for LD coaches packets for advancing Lincoln-Douglas Debaters. Coaches and contestants must go to the UIL web site for tentative schedule, UT parking, UT campus map and other vital State Meet information. Responsibility for knowing times, dates and sites of State Meet events rests solely with coaches and contestants.
Scholarships
Tarleton State University will award $500 scholarships to the first place winners of all academic events at the Region II AA meet who attend Tarleton State University. For further information, write to the Director of Scholarships, Tarleton State University, Stephenville, TX 76402.
To receive UIL Regional Papers
Students who wish to receive their tests, critiques, and/or written evaluations after the completion of their competition are requested to pick them up the day of the contest from UIL Headquarters. Those that are unable to do so MUST leave a stamped, self-addressed envelope with the regional contest director. Envelopes will be mailed the following week.
