The meeting was called to order by Travis Sagebiel (President) who first discussed the volunteer events that occurred the weekend prior to this meeting (September 19, 2009). Some of the events were the National Wild Turkey Federation, J.A.K.E.S event, and the Big Game Awards in Abilene. Then he discussed upcoming volunteer events for the weekend of September 25, 2009 which consists of the Lake Navarro Mills Field Day Trip and the Quail Research Project, the latter of the two was cancelled. Other volunteer events such as the Fort Worth Nature Center’s Monster Fest (October 3, 2009) and Spotlight Counts with Patrick Kostecka were discussed after that.
After volunteer events were discussed Travis then talked about updates for the Wild Game Dinner. Each committee selected for the dinner meet in Ag 303 every Wednesday night at 7pm to discuss the dinner and its progress. Tickets for this event are available at the meeting and Megan Zoch (Secretary) is the person to contact for them, her number is 979-966-9331.
Alan Matthews announced Quiz Bowl and the significance of it. The first meeting for Quiz Bowl practice is on September 24, 2009 at 7pm in Ag 303 and further meetings will be decided at the first meeting but will most likely be on Thursdays at 7pm in Ag 303.
Reminders were then stated to the members (new and old). These reminders were: (1) dues are to be paid - $10 per year, $6 per semester; (2) each member is to fill out a membership form and turn in; (3) join the list serve the get updates for the Wildlife Society; (4) and to sign in at each meeting.
Pizza, donated by Domino’s, was brought in at this time for everyone to enjoy while the speaker was giving his presentation.
Our guest speaker, John Karges, was introduced my Dr. Mueller. He gave a presentation on different challenges of conservation in Texas, especially to the wildlife. John Karges was finished with his presentation on Texas Conservation Challenges: Wildlife to Landscape. More announcements were made concerning: (1) Tarleton’s Homecoming – helping Block and Bridle with the homecoming float; (2) Dr. Dottavio’s Presidential Inauguration (Friday, October 2, 2009 – 1:30pm-2:00pm); (3) TSU Relay for Life on November 6, 2009; (4) and becoming a TAT driver to earn extra money.
After no further discussion, the club thanked John Karges for coming and speaking to us and Travis adjourned the meeting.
