Minutes of the Faculty Senate Meeting
May 6, 1997
Agenda Items of Business
1. Approval of Minutes and Treasurers Report. President Bill Chandler called the May 6, 1997 meeting of the Tarleton State University Faculty Senate to order at 3:30. The minutes of the April 8, 1997 meeting were approved. Sandy Johnson attended for Carl Chumney. Irma Harrington was absent
Chris Chandler, Director of Human Resources, presented the senate with copies of the Sexual Harassment Policy. Mr. Chandler requested that senators distribute the policy to faculty for final comments. He stated that the universitys goal was to include an approved policy in the packets distributed at the fall general meeting. Bill Chandler requested that any comments from faculty be sent to him and that he would forward the comments to Mr. Chandler.
2. Introduction of new senators. Malcolm Cross introduced Gene Atkinson as the new senator for Social Sciences. Glenda Stone introduced Karen DeFranchi as the new senator from the Library. Ann Albrecht introduced Linda Duncan as the new senator for Education Administration, Counseling and Psychology. Dan Hardin introduced Clyde Stahnke as the new senator for Agribusiness, Agronomy, Horticulture and Range Management.
3. Election of president-elect. A motion passed to elect Holly Lamb by acclimation.
4. Approval of committee recommendations. The committee recommendations were approved with the following revisions: Ruben Walter was deleted from and M. Hawke was added to the recommendations for the University Scholarship Committee. Sarah Tyler and Tim Brown were added to the recommendations for the Academic Standards Committee. Dwayne Snider was added to and Greg Paine was deleted from the recommendations for the BAAS Committee. Tim Brown was added to the recommendations for the University Research Committee.
5. Discussion of Emeritus Status Policy. A motion passed to leave the current policy in place.
6. Discussion of Faculty Merit Plus Instructions. A motion passed to table the discussion until the September meeting. The following senators volunteered to draft application instructions: Art Low, Joe Cude, Holly Lamb, and Pat Smith.
7. Discussion of Degree Program Task Force Initial Report.
8. Announcements. No announcements were made.
9. New Business. Because no representative from Social Work, Sociology, and Criminal Justice had attended the last three meetings, a motion passed to write a letter notifying the department head that the office is now vacant. Janet Miles-Maestas forwarded a request from Staff Council that the senate share the cost of the noon-time aerobics service. The senate agreed to help pay its share.
