Pledge Requirements

Pledge Policy

    • Pledges must wear their pledge pin at all times.  Exceptions will be made for sleeping, showering, uniform requirements, and other such reasonable accommodations.
    • Pledges must complete 25 hours of community service during their pledging period.  All hours must be done through chapter service projects and abide by the service policy.
    • Pledges must obtain 8 fellowship points during their pledge period.
    • Pledges must obtain 8 leadership points during their pledge period. At least 3 per month must be earned unless scheduling conflicts arise.
    • Pledges must chair or co-chair at least one event during their pledging season.  This must be approved by the Pledge staff and service vice president. .
    • Pledges must pay 35 dollars with in two weeks of the start of the pledging period or have an appropriate payment plan set up.
    • Pledges must interview all actives, pledges, and at least 2 advisors. Interviews must be kept in the pledge notebook, if provided. Otherwise, pledges are responsible for keeping track of their interview sheets.
    • Pledges must obtain at least 3 interviews a week.
    • Pledges must attend all pledge meetings.  If you are unable to attend a pledge meeting, you must contact the Pledge staff 24 hours in advance with an appropriate reason why you cannot attend. If you miss a meeting, you are responsible for all material covered during the meeting and must obtain all material prior to the next meeting either through their fellow pledges or the Pledgemaster an pledge staff.
    • Pledges must attend at least 3 active meetings, unless scheduling conflicts arise.
    • The pledge class must plan and implement a PCSP (Pledge Class Service Project) with prior approval from the Pledge staff, and Chapter.
    • The pledge class must plan an implement a PCCP (Pledge Class Craft Project) with prior approval of the Pledge staff, and Chapter.
    • Pledges must plan and go to a Pledge Class Retreat unless otherwise specified by the Pledge staff.
    • Pledges must pass the final with at 75% or higher and have an overall average of 80%.  Final counts towards 30% of the overall average.
    • Pledges must attend both pledging ceremonies to become an Active.
    • All pledges must be in good standing with the university.
    • Pledges must exemplify the 3 Cardinal Principals (Leadership, Friendship, and Service).
    • Pledges may not consume alcohol during pledge period.
    •  If an active offers alcohol to a pledge, the active is required to attend a disciplinary meeting with the exec board.
    • Pledges will not be subjected to any form of Hazing.  Any hazing should be reported to the Pledge staff.
    • All Bigs must participate in Big/Little day, unless cleared by Pledge staff 48 hours in advance.
    • The Pledgemaster is responsible for acting as the contact point between the pledges and the active body, and vice versa.
    • The Pledgemaster and pledge staff is responsible for informing the pledge body of all upcoming events of the chapter. The Pledgemaster is also responsible for informing the active body of the status of the pledges and their progress.
    • The pledge staff members are to attend every pledge meeting unless scheduling conflicts arise, in which case the Pledgemaster should be notified of this 24 hours in advance.
    • The pledge staff is responsible for contacting pledges if the Pledgemaster needs the help.
    • Sponsors shall be handled to where an entire family sponsors a group of pledges. Exact number to be determined by pledge class size.
    • Families are responsible for pooling the money together for sponsor gifts, which shall be standardized for everyone.
    • If families have trouble pooling the money, they may ask the active body for the use of chapter funds, to be approved on current situations and the active vote.
    • Each family shall receive a family pledge day to introduce themselves to the pledges and tell them about their family. All actives are encouraged to come. However, only the family hosting their event may talk about their family. There WILL NOT be talk of a family at another family’s event.
    • If an active has signed up to come to a pledge ceremony, the Pledgemaster will hold them to it and they must be there.
    • If your office has a part in a ceremony, then your schedule will be given priority consideration in planning the ceremonies.
    • Pledge ceremonies shall be planned around as many people as possible, but only if your schedule has been given to the VP CoLD.
