GRANBURY, TX -
WARNING – “Spontaneous shimmies may occur!” Shake up your day and shake off the chill of fall with belly dance classes at the Langdon Center in Granbury. Morning and evening classes will be offered in a new 6 week session beginning Tuesday, October 16th and Thursday, October 18, 2012. All classes will meet at the Langdon Center Concert Hall on the corner of E. Bridge and Brazos Streets in Granbury.
Oriental Dance, or belly dance, as it is most commonly known in the United States, is a social dance form that provides fantastic emotional and health benefits for women of all ages, shapes and sizes. The holidays are coming soon. Don’t forget to take good care of yourself. What better way to do that than to try something new. Belly dance classes can be just the ticket! The movements are naturally body friendly. Not only is it great exercise, it’s FUN and can also be a real boost to self esteem. “It’s thrilling to see the beautiful physical and emotional transformation that often occurs in a person as a result of studying Oriental Dance,” says Heather Wayman, local belly dance instructor. “We had the best time ever in the previous session of classes and I look forward to sharing this wonderful art with more of the ladies in Granbury as word gets out about how much fun it is”.
There will be three different class formats available during this session. “Belly Dance Basics” will teach students the fundamental movements of Oriental Dance and will include hip and ribcage isolations, along with several different types of shimmies. “Zil Zeal” will be a study of finger cymbals (zils). The Zil class will teach students about the most common drum rhythms used in Oriental Dance along with zil patterns that can be played with each rhythm and simple hip movements that can be added to zil playing. Zils will be available for loan during class.
Also available will be an “Introduction to American Tribal Style Belly Dance (ATS). American Tribal Style is a group, improvisational method of dance with a leader and followers. Students will learn simple steps and combinations along with cues that will have participants dancing together in synchronized steps “on the fly” from the very first class.
All classes are appropriate for beginners. Enrollment is limited. Early registration is advised.
