Accomplish entire exercise
with the following OMISSIONS:
molar gland, p. 191
infraorbital gland, p. 191
To
expose the inside of the mouth, cut the inside corner on each side of the
mouth. To preserve the neck muscles, do not attempt
to view the pharynx region on your cats.
Instead, I have prepared a sagittal section of
the head. Be sure to spend some time
looking at this. Also note that the
muscles of the chin can be viewed from this sagittal
section. These include the genioglossus, geniohyoid, and mylohoid.
When cutting open the
abdominal cavity, try to cut directly down the midline of the body so that the
rectus abdominis is not destroyed. Remove a majority of the mesentery and
associated fat.
To view the portions of
the larynx described on p. 196, again do not use your cats or the musculature
associated with the neck will be destroyed.
Instead, view this region on the sagittal
sections of the head and neck.
When exposing the thoracic
cavity, cut through the side of the chest that you have not used to separate
the pectoral musculature, NOT the side exposing the deep muscles.
