  2. Describe different types of variables: nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio; categorical and quantitative; dependent and independent.
  3. Explain various testing terms: standardized test, assessment, measurement, selection, supply, performance assessments, raw scores, norm- and criterion-referenced scoring.
  4. Describe the purposes of various types of tests: achievement, aptitude, attitude, interest, value, personality, projective, nonprojective, and self-report.
  5. Describe various scales used to collect data for cognitive and affective variables
  6. Familiarize yourself with measuring instruments and select those suited for varied research needs.
  7. Describe the purposes and ways to determine content, criterion-related, construct, and consequential validity.
  8. Describe the purposes of and ways to determine stability, equivalence, equivalence and stability, internal consistency, and rater reliability.
  9. Define or describe standard error of measurement.

Activities:

  1. Read Chapter 6 - Selecting Measuring Instruments
  2. Respond to the Blackboard Discussion Post and one other classmate's post for the chapter reading before Monday at Noon.
  3. Complete the ten online questions related to Levels of Measurement or Types of Variables.
  4. Print-out these three questions about Dependent & Independent Variables. Identify the dependent variable, independent variable, control group and treatment group for each question.
  5. Review the numerous Types of Instruments available on this page.
