Spring 2012

Assignment 1 (5% of final grade):  Students will be required to find 15 peer-reviewed journal articles over a topic of their choosing and create a properly formatted bibliography.  Although each journal has its own style of formatting, students must use the formatting provided below to receive full credit.  Refer to Chapter 2 of your textbook  (Pechenik 2007) for more details on locating useful sources.

Assignment 2 (10% of final grade):  Students will be required to write clear and concise summaries for 10 of their 15 articles.  Refer to Chapter 7 (Pechenik 2007) of your textbook for more details on writing summaries.

• Example summaries - The following two examples were written by former students and, although they are not perfect, exemplify what I am looking for in an article summary.

Assignment 3 (15% of final grade):  Students will be required to combine their article summaries in a synthetic fashion that reviews the current state of knowledge in regards to their particular topic.  Refer to Chapter 8 (Pechenik 2007) of your textbook for more details on writing a review paper.
