Graduate Degree Comprehensive Exam - Essay & Objective (all majors except experimental psychology)

Every candidate for an M.Ed.,or M.S. degree must apply for and pass a comprehensive examination.
The examination is taken in the final semester of graduate coursework listed on the student's degree plan,
   including all internship and practicum courses.
While the scheduled date is usually posted early in the semester, the student is ultimately responsible for
   contacting the program office for information regarding the examination and for making arrangements to
   take it as scheduled.

Graduating Semester Comprehensive Examination Dates and Application Deadlines
       Fall -- Exam on 2nd Saturday in November -- October 1st application deadline
       Spring -- Exam 2nd Saturday in April -- March 1st application deadline
       Summer Sessions I & II -- Exam on 2nd Saturday in July -- June 1st application deadline

Internship and Practicum Forms

Internship or Practicum: Which one do I take?

  • School Counselor students (M.Ed. - Counseling)
    take CNSL 595 - Internship I and CNSL 596 - Internship II
  • Licensed Professional Counselor students (M.S. - Counseling Psychology)
    take PSY 505 - Practicum I and PSY 584 - Practicum II
Internship and Practicum: How many hours of field placement are required?
  • School Counselor students (M.Ed. - Counseling)
    150 clock hours for CNSL 595 and 150 clock hours for CNSL 596
  • Licensed Professional Counselor students (M.S. - Counseling Psychology)
    150 clock hours for PSY 505 and 150 clock hours for PSY 584
