His masters and doctoral research was done at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio,Texas. He worked on an instrument developed jointly with the Swedish Institute for Space Physics in Kiruna. In Fall 1997 and Summer 1998 Wayne had the privilege of going to Kiruna, Sweden, to work on and calibrate the instrument that was to be placed in orbit to analyze ions and electrons (MEDUSA). It was launched on a Russian Cosmos rocket in December 1998. Wayne worked on and calibrated a newer version of the instrument (MEDUSA 2) that was launched at Vandenberg, California in November, 2000, on the Munin satellite. Wayne analyzed data from the orbiting satellite. He recently received a Federal Grant to work on a "cluster" project at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland. He started work in August 2003. In September 2005, he accepted a visiting professorship position at Angelo State University, San Angelo, Texas.
