BARBARA J. LYON, ED.D., SPHR

Professor, HRM Program Coordinator

GENERAL COMMENTS

Teaching

Since beginning my higher education teaching career in Killeen in 1987, I have generally been assigned to teach graduate courses in human resource management, as well as related undergraduate courses in management.  Most of this time has also been spent as a program coordinator, including responsibilities for graduate and undergraduate internships, curriculum planning, development and evaluation.  To facilitate program requirements and individual student desires, several semesters have included independent study (Problems) courses and teaching overloads.

Scholarly and Creative Contributions

The focus of my early scholarly work was related to an award-winning book on Business Management & Ownership and related technical studies.  More recently, my attention has been centered on applied research in cultural adaptability, organizational ethics and veteran employment issues.

Service

Service to the university, HR profession and our community has been consistent throughout my higher education career. This service has offered opportunities in several positions of leadership at university, community, state, regional, and national levels.  Significant contributions have been made in the areas of institutional effectiveness, curriculum development, veteran workforce development, and student affairs.
