Program for Astronomy Education & Research
TSU's Program for Astronomy Education and Research provides students with the opportunity to undertake significant astronomical research using our 32" telescope and, through our outreach programs, shares the wonders of the universe in our planetarium and via shows that we produce.
Our observatory, located on Tarleton's Hunewell Ranch east of Stephenville, utilizes a 32" Ritchey-Chretien reflecting telescope designed and fabricated by Astronomical Consultants and Equipment of Tucson, AZ. The computer controlled, high resolution CCD imaging system ensures accurate image capture for either research or projection.
Located under the copper dome, in Tarleton's Science Building, our 40'
planetarium is host to approximately 15,000 visitors each year. The vast majority of our guests are students from Pre-K to 6th grade. Our programs combine video, sound, photographic transparencies and stellar images from our Digistar II digital starfield projector to bring the wonders of space to our visitors.
