Wind Ensemble & Chamber Winds
Dr. Anthony Pursell, Conductor
Membership is selected by audition from among the finest wind and percussion players at the university. Both ensembles perform diverse repertoire of the highest caliber. The Wind Ensemble has a strong commitment to new music as well as to the finest standard band repertoire. This ensemble has a tradition of excellence and commissions new works for band and hosts outstanding composers, conductors, and soloists. The Wind Ensemble has participated in consortiums with universities from around the country to commission new works by several composers including: Kevin Walczyk, David Avshalomov, and Michael Schelle. In the Spring 2012, the Wind Ensemble gave the world premier of Conflict by Tarleton alum, Jordan Grelle (BA, '11). The Wind Ensemble will premier Jordan Grelle's next composition as the lead consortium member during the Invitational Band Festival in 2013.
