Mr. Greg Ball
Director, Tarleton Jazz Ensemble; Saxophone and Woodwinds
Greg Ball is on the faculty at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas where he has taught woodwinds and directed the Tarleton Jazz Ensemble since 1990. He is a graduate of Youngstown State University (Ohio) and the University of North Texas. He has recently begun a series of lecture recitals entitled The History of the Saxophone, designed to give his audience a greater understanding of the instrument’s history, teachers, performers and composers. Under his direction, the Tarleton Jazz Ensemble has recorded two full length CD’s, appeared at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio and performed in London, Dublin, Galway, Prague, Vienna and the Montreux Jazz Festival.
Greg is sought after as a clinician and performer throughout the state conducting clinics and workshops at schools and conducting numerous high school All-Region Bands. He has also been a clinician/performer at the TMEA Convention and lectures on Jazz History and Home Brewing.
Among his many performance experiences, Greg has played with the Collection Jazz Orchestra and the Dallas Jazz Orchestra, toured with the Maynard Ferguson and Glenn Miller Bands and recorded with the Dallas Wind Symphony. As host of the Annual Tarleton Jazz Festival he has worked with Maria Schneider, David “Fathead” Newman, Rufus Reid, Jim Snidero, John Fedchock, Sean Jones, Maynard Ferguson, the Count Basie Orchestra and Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band.
Greg Ball is a Rico Performing Artist. He is also President-elect of the Texas Jazz Educators Association and the Texas All-state Jazz Coordinator.
