SAIL

A unique TMATE summer experience for children

Summer Adventures in Learning (SAIL) is a TMATE and Erath County United Way sponsored summer academic learning experience designed to make learning interesting, challenging and fun for students entering first through eighth grade.

SAIL provides an opportunity for TMATE pre-interns to demonstrate their proficiency in teaching and managing a classroom before beginning their internship teaching year in the fall. Pre-interns create and implement teaching units designed to capture students' interest and provide challenging learning experiences. Units must develop basic academic skills, as expressed in the state mandated curriculum. Example SAIL activities have included planning and operating a restaurant, exploring Mars, repairing automobiles, building model rockets and publishing a newspaper. At the end of the program, pre-interns provide an assessment to students and parents of what has been learned and what proficiencies have been attained.

SAIL is jointly sponsored by TMATE and United Way

SAIL students return year after year and look forward to attending the school.  The teachers--Tarleton interns preparing for teaching careers -- develop creative units of instruction based on specific themes or concepts.  These units must appeal to students' interests, but also facilitate the development of state mandated academic skills.
