Rita Pierson, a representative of the Ruby Payne organization, will present a Workshop on Under Resourced Learners

Rita is a dynamic speaker who uses humor and personal experiences to emphasize the effects of poverty and illustrate strategies for overcoming poverty. Rita has been a professional educator since 1972. As an educator, she has served in numerous roles and has also developed and implemented a school/community involvement program for a large urban elementary school, as well as organized and trained an in-school crisis team for students in need of immediate intervention.
Persons attending will receive a copy of Ruby Payne's latest publication Under Resourced Learners.

Dr. Donna Beegle will present a keynote on Helping Students Escape the Trap of Poverty

Dr. Beegle was born and raised in generational poverty. Her inspirational message about overcoming the ill effects of poverty is based on personal experience combined with the latest research on poverty. She has been interviewed on CNN and is the central figure in a PBS documentary on poverty. Following Dr. Beegles presentation ESP will host breakout sessions. Teachers, principals and Tarleton Professors will be invited to share with ESP participants strategies and policies that have proven effective in combating the effects of poverty.
