TExES Test Policy

Tarleton State University Policies Governing the TExES/BTLPT/LOTE

The TExES/ExCET examinations affect not only your certification status, but also the accreditation of educator preparation programs at Tarleton State University. The Tarleton Educator Preparation Council developed the following policies to help ensure the success of Tarleton students and to assure the continuing accreditation of all teacher education programs at Tarleton.

  • Students must take the required TExES/BTLPT/LOTE exams according to the test schedule provided by the Coordinator for Certification Testing.  Graduate students must take the required exams as instructed by the program coordinator or department.

  • Students may take only one test per test administration. Any variation of this policy MUST be approved by the Dean of the College of Education upon recommendation of the appropriate department head.

  • A student is not eligible to take an additional required exam until successful on any previously attempted exams.

  • Students must register for the option (paper-based or computer-administered) as instructed by the Coordinator for Certification Testing.

  • In the event a student fails a TExES/BTLPT/LOTE exam, the student MUST register to retake the exam at the next available paper-based test administration or approved computer-administered test administration, and MUST continue to retake the exam until successful.

  • Appeals related to any TExES/BTLPT/LOTE policy MUST be made in writing to the Dean of the College of Education at Tarleton State University. An information copy of the appeal MUST be provided to the appropriate department head.
