Summary of Basic Requirements

EDU 320 - Professional Development I

You  must have 60 or more hours, not including developmental classes.

EDU 330 - Professional Development II

You must be admitted to the Teacher Education Program.  Please see basic requirements below.

Please note, due to the new professional development sequence, the following will apply:

Students who have completed EDU 330 will be given credit for the new 330.  They will take EDU 320 next, followed by EDU 430 or 404, then EDU 435 and 490.

Students who have completed EDU 330 and EDU 335 will be given credit for the new EDU 320 and EDU 330.  They will take EDU 430 or 404 next, then EDU 435 and 490.

Summary of Interdisciplinary Studies Admission Requirements for the Teacher Education Program

 1.   Minimum 2.6 GPA in each of the following areas

  • Professional development
  • Reading
  • Content Area(s)
  • Overall (on Certificate Audit)

 2.   No grade lower than "C" in the following:

  • Professional development course work
  • Reading
  • Content Area(s)
  • 12 hours of University-required English
  • PSY 303 or 220 or HS 300

 3.   Current enrollment in or completion of:

  • EDU 320
  • PSY 303 or 220 or HS 300
  • Math 107 or above
  • 60 semester hours excluding developmental course work
  • One full semester at Tarleton State University

 4.   Passing scores on all three parts of the THEA or an approved alternative.  Scores required and alternative tests.

 5.   Evidence of good moral character and the mental, emotional, and physical ability to function effectively in a classroom.

 6.   Completion of COMS 101 or its equivalent with a grade of "B" or better by the end of the application semester.

 7.   Completion of 12 hours in certificate area with a grade of "C" or better and a 2.6 GPA by the end of the application   

        semester.

 8.   Successful completion of departmental screening instrument.

Summary of Secondary/All-Level Admission Requirements for the Teacher Education Program

1.   Minimum 2.6 GPA in each of the following areas:          

  • Professional development         
  • Teaching Field(s)         
  • Overall (on certificate plan)         

2.  No grade lower than "C" in the following:

  • Professional development course work         
  • Teaching Field(s)         
  • PSY 303 or 220 or HS 300        
  • RDG 351 (if taken)         
  • 12 hours University-required English 

3.  Current enrollment in or completion of:         

  • EDU 320         
  • PSY 303 or 220 or HS 300        
  • 12 hours University required English 
  • 60 semester hours excluding developmental course work
  • One full semester at Tarleton State University

4.  Passing scores on all three parts of the THEA or an approved alternative.  Scores required and alternative tests.
