What is Study Abroad

Study abroad encompasses a variety of international experiences: study, research, internships, volunteer, and service learning programs.

Tarleton offers study abroad opportunities for all students, both undergraduate and graduate. Options range from programs as short as a week to a whole academic year. Students have the flexibility to choose to participate as part of a group or individually.

Depending on your major, your desired destination and your comfort level for traveling, programs can be designed to fit your individual academic needs and situation.

WHY STUDY ABROAD?

  • Earn academic credit towards your degree. Students work closely with their academic advisor to take courses abroad that count towards your degree.
  • Increase your professional value; various studies show that students who have studied abroad find employment more regularly and earn higher salaries than their peers who have stayed in the U.S. throughout college (Source: link)
  • Join other Texans: Tarleton State University is committed to increasing student participation in study abroad experiences. Over 250 Tarleton students participate on study abroad experiences each year.
  • Studying abroad will broaden your intellectual and personal horizons, help you navigate in different environments, practice or perfect a language, gain desired professional skills and the ability to build a resume that expands career options. For you to assume your role in an interdependent global economy you need a broader understanding of the international landscape.
