The University Writing Center
How can we help you? The Writing Center is designed to help writers in all stages of the composing process. Our writing consultants can address a variety of writing issues in any stage of a paper. We also help students prepare for essay examinations such as the TSU Writing Proficiency Exam. Do I have to be in an English class to get help with my writing? Many students believe they have to be in
an English class in order to take advantage of the Writing Center; however,
this is not true. Bring your writing projects from any class or major,
and we'll be glad to work with you. When can I come to the Writing Center? The Writing Center
has regular hours each week. You can make an appointment, or you can
just drop in. To make an appointment, call 968-1814. If you want
to drop by with your work, we are located in the Humanities Building, Room
210. If our writing consultants are busy when you arrive, they will
be glad to set an appointment for you at a later time, usually that same day.
Writing consultants will not look at papers which
are due within two hours of the consultation time. Students should
bring papers to the Writing Center well in advance of the paper due date
so the consultants have more time to work with the students. What can I expect from a tutoring session in the Writing Center? You can expect
knowledgeable, professional help with your work. The Writing Center is staffed
with graduate students, undergraduate students, and English Department faculty
members. The Writing Center consultants want you to become a thoughtful,
independent writer. This means that the consultants will not revise,
proofread, or edit your papers for you, but they will teach you how to do
these things for yourself so you become a more confident writer.
