 TMATE Program Overview

The Tarleton Model for Accelerated Teacher Education - TMATE - has been in existence since 1986, with more than 800 persons having earned their teaching credentials through this innovative program. TMATE is specially designed for adults who have previously earned their bachelor's degree and who now seek to make a career transition into the teaching profession.

The TMATE program, which spans about 13-14 months, is organized into three phases. The first phase, referred to as Pre-Internship, begins in June and extends through the summer. The second phase is the Internship, which begins at the start of the school year and extends through the fall and spring semesters. Following the conclusion of the school year, TMATE interns return to campus for summer course work, and this phase of the program is referred to as the Post-Internship.
