Excellence in Scholarship
The purpose of the Faculty Excellence in Scholarship Award is to annually select a Tarleton State University faculty member who has shown exemplary performance in scholarship as per the eligibility requirements for the award. Please visit this link for the requisite paperwork.
a. Engaged in creative activity such as shows, recitals, recordings, musical performances, or lighting, set, or costume design.
-and/or-
b. Published or presented research (funded or non-funded):
i. authored books and/or journal articles
ii. authored monographs or chapters in books
iii. conducted and published research (funded or non-funded) for which he/she presents scholarly papers or makes comparable presentations at professional meetings
iv. conducted and published collaborative research involving faculty and/or student colleagues.
-and/or-
c. conducted state, national, or international-level seminars, workshops, or comparable creative activities in a scholarly environment.
To initiate the nomination process each academic year, the Provost/Vice-President for Academic Affairs will initiate a call to the Deans to announce the award nomination and subsequent selection processes.
A faculty member can self-nominate or be nominated by a departmental faculty colleague, who will notify the faculty senator in the respective department. The department faculty senator will then provide the nominee with an application packet by the second Monday in February.
A nominated faculty member who chooses to submit a completed application packet will deliver it to the office of his/her respective academic dean by the first Monday in March.
a. The college dean will select a college-level selection committee to be composed of two faculty members from each academic department of the college, with one of these individuals being the department's faculty senator.
b. The dean will serve as the chair of the college-level committee.
c. An award applicant cannot serve on the committee.
d. If the dean is an applicant, a department head from the college will be selected by the VPAA to chair the committee.
e. Should a faculty senator be an applicant, the dean (or VPAA) will select another faculty member from the department.
f. The committee chair will vote only in the case of a tie.
g. The college-level committee will determine operating procedures prior to the first Monday in March.
h. Each college selection committee will forward the application packet of the college-level nominee to the university-wide selection committee by the first Monday in April.
a. The committee will be composed of one faculty senator from each academic college.
b. An applicant for the college-level nomination may not serve on the university-wide committee.
c. The college-level faculty senators will select a colleague to chair the university-wide committee.
d. The university-wide committee will determine its operating procedures prior to the first Monday in April.
