with a general assessment of your own reading responses:
Anything bothersome?
Anything particularly pleasant?
Any particular scene that strongly impacted you?
Any character that you identified with?
How does the book's message (assuming it has one) apply to you?
Determine whether or not any details in the book will be confusing to your students. Do "repetoires" match? What can you do to alleviate potential problems?
What literary concepts should you teach? Does this novel lend itself to close reading and analysis? Does it hold up to evaluation?
How will the reading be handled? Whole class? Independent project? Small groups?
How many class days shold you devote to the novel? How many lessons will the unit have?
If available, should you bring in other media to enhance your students' reading? And at what point should you make them available?
What projects or assignments will best allow you to reach your goals for teaching the novel?
