Meet the Staff
Ronald Giles - Director of Recreational Sports Ronnie (Coach) came to Tarleton State University in 1973 where he started his career here as a Football Coach and Assistant Professor in the Health & P.E Department. He became the Intramural Director in 1983 when the Recreational Sports Department took form. His first construction project was the Vance Terrell Complex which was completed and opened for use in the Fall of 1985. After years of dreaming and planning, a new Recreational Sports Facility will be built and opening the Fall 2007. Coach currently teaches Archery for the Health & P.E. Department. Coach received his BS in Education at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas in 1964, and Masters in Education at Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas in 1968. Coach and Linda married in 1958. They have two married children, Kent & Kristen Giles and J.D. & Debbie Dillingham. They also are blessed with two grandchildren Brittany and Haley Giles. Robert Nimmo - Associate Director Robert Nimmo came to Tarleton State University in Spring 1988 as a student. He received his BS in Education in 1992 and Masters in Education in 1994, both at Tarleton State University. Robert became the Associate Director of Recreational Sports in 1994, where the student participation has steadily continued to grow over the years. Robert also serves as the UIL Athletic Director for Region II AA High School. He also can be seen keeping the shot clock at the Tarleton Basketball games, and keeping the playing clock at Tarleton and Stephenville football games. Robert and Angie married in 1999. They have two children, Haylee and Hayden. Daron Trussell - Assistant Director Daron started at Tarleton in July of 2007. He graduated from Tarleton State University in 2002 with a B.S. in Kinesiology. He then spent two years as the Intramural Graduate Assistant at The University of North Texas. He graduated from North Texas in 2005 with a M.S. in Recreation and Leisure Studies. Prior to coming back to work for Tarleton, Daron spent two years as the Athletic Coordinator for the City of Grapevine. Sarah Nielsen - Fitness/Wellness Coordinator Sarah started at Tarleton in September of 2007. She graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth in December of 2005 with a B.A.S. in Recreation-Sports Programming. Before moving to Texas she lived in Minneapolis, Minnesoooota working in Corporate Wellness as a Health Advisor, Group Exercise Instructor, and Personal Trainer. David Meyers - Outdoor Pursuit Coordinator David started at Tarleton in August of 2004. He has been closely associated with experiential education for 15 years prior to his arrival with time spent in Europe, Colorado, North Carolina and Alaska. David received a B.S. in Communications from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1982, a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Maryland in 1992, and a M.S. in Park, Recreational and Tourism Management from North Carolina State University in 1995. David has one son, Nick. Deborah Bales - Program Coordinator Deborah Bales came to Tarleton State University in August 2001. Deborah transferred to Recreational Sports in July 2004. Deborah and George married in July 2001. They have six children. Deborah has three sons and George has three daughters. They also have two grandchildren, twin granddaughters McKenna and Raelee Dillard. Kay Cupp - Administrative Assistant II Kay moved to Stephenville in July 2007 from Arlington, where she worked at The University of Texas at Arlington for eight years. She joined the Recreational Sports "team" in August 2007. Kay and her husband, Ed, married on her birthday in November 1980. They have two children - Kristi, who is married to Josh, have a son, Aidan, and and live in Morgan Mill; and Brian, who is married to Laura and they have a new son (Ashton) and live in the Dallas area. Kay enjoys being a grandma (Nana). They have a Golden Retriever, Honey, who runs their household! Jackie Williamson - Facility Equipment Technician Jackie graduated from Texas Wesleyan University in 1967. He coached for 30 years and retired in 2000. After his retirement he moved to Stephenville and started working for Tarleton State University in July of 2004. Jackied has been married 44 years to Nona Williamson, who works in the Research and Grants department at Tarleton. They have two children, Jeff and Christi, and four grandchildren. Brent Carter - Graduate Assistant Brent started at Tarleton in the fall of 2002. He earned his bachelor’s in Exercise and Sports Studies in the summer of 2006 and is currently working on his Masters of Education in Physical Education. Brent married his high school sweetheart Whitney on Dec. 31, 2005 and they live in Stephenville with their two children J.D and Lilly (a four-year old Boston terrier and a two-year old Boxer.). Logan Synatzske - Graduate Assistant Logan graduated with a degree in communications from Tarleton State University in May 2006. He is currently working on his Masters of Education in Physical Education. He expects to be a certified personal trainer and strength trainer before Fall 2008, and plans on pursuing a career in the administration area of physical fitness facilities or corporate fitness. John Michael Cassidy - Graduate Assistant John Michael started at Tarleton in August 2007. He graduated with B.S in Outdoor Recreation from Middle Tennessee State University in 2006 and is pursuing a Masters in Physical Education. In 2006, he was an Intern with the Outdoor Recreation Program at Vanderbilt University and a Graduate Assistant at Mississippi State University during the 2006/2007 academic year. Prior to his arrival in Texas, John Michael was an Intern (Outdoor Recreation Leadership) and Adjunct Instructor at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College where he taught Physical Education and Outdoor Recreation courses. Belinda Reeves - Environmental Worker 1 Belinda started working at Tarleton in November of 2001, working in the Residential Living and Learning department prior to moving to Recreational Sports in February, 2008. She has been married to James Reeves for 30 years. They have two grown sons, James Jr. and Joseph, along with a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth. Belinda is the grandmother of Trunks, who is 4 years old, and Roslyn, 1 year old. In 2005 she became a licensed massage therapist.
