Residential College -- Student Success Programs -- Tarleton State University

What is the Residential College program?

The Residential College program is a year-long program made up of several residential college communities. Residential college community is a cluster of courses in which students having a common major or interest may enroll. Additionally, students in residential college reside with other Residential College participants in Crockett Hall. For more information about living at Tarleton, visit Residential Living and Learning (RLL).

Program Description

Participation in this program allows students to be part of a group of people who are enrolled in many of the same courses. Each community is limited to no more than 24 students. To participate in a residential college, the student must enroll in the specified course sections for the residential college “block schedule” during both Fall and Spring semesters. Student must enroll in all of the course sections in the residential college “block schedule” unless approved by Student Success Programs. Guidelines for exception:

  • Prior credit for course.
  • Course does not fit University Mathematics/English placement rules (Students placed in MATH 100 or ENG 100 will be evaluated on an individual basis for admission into the program).
  • Students lack appropriate prerequisite course(s).
  • Course does not fit the student’s academic program.

Student Benefits

The biggest benefit of being in a residential college is that it makes adjusting to college life so much easier and quicker. Residential college students report greater satisfaction than other freshmen with learning their course material. This is a result of closer interaction with faculty, participating in peer study groups, and applying their learning to real world problems.

Students in a Residential College often get together for social activities such as sporting events, theater performances, or guest speakers; they have meals with each other and faculty, or they just hang out with each other and have fun.
