Public history is not just for graduate students!

In addition to courses in a variety of history concentrations, Tarleton offers History 407—History Careers outside the Classroom during the fall semester. Taught by a public historian, this class gives students the opportunity to interact with museum curators, archivists, historic preservationists, state park administrators, publishers, heritage tourism specialists, and others who protect, promote and preserve history every day.

Special speakers have included:
Ron Chrisman, Director, University of North Texas Press
Randy Ferris, Park Superintendent, Palo Duro Canyon State Park
David Klempin, Main Street Manager, Grapevine, Texas
Lois Myers, Director, Institute for Oral History, Baylor University
Dan K. Utley, Chief Historian, Texas Historical Commission

Don’t miss the chance to find out if one of these careers might be right for you!

After completion of History 407—History Careers outside the Classroom, students may enroll in History 484—Practicum, Field Problem or Internship.
