Patrons who return library materials with damage will be charged a damage fee or replacement + processing fee as determined by a library supervisor.
Damage fee:
A damage fee of no less than $10.50 will be assessed for materials with minor damage that can be repaired and placed back into the collection.
This includes but is not limited to: cover damage, minor damage caused by pets, damage caused by post-it notes, page markers, bent pages, underlining, highlighting, and/or writing on pages.
Lost item fee:
Materials damaged by the user that cannot be repaired will be considered damaged beyond use. The user will be assessed a lost item fee (current replacement price of item + $10.50 processing fee).
Items that may be deemed lost are those items returned with permanent non-repairable damage, including water, paint, ink, cut, torn, or chewed pages.
Book Replacement Option:
Users returning materials determined to be a complete loss have the option of bringing in a replacement copy of the item and paying a reduced processing fee of $7.50 instead of paying the normal lost item fee (current replacement price of item + $10.50 processing fee).
NOTE:
If you notice an item is damaged at the time of checkout, notify staff so that they can make a notation on the book pocket describing the damage along with their initials and date. It is important for users to examine materials and notify staff of any questionable damage before checking out materials to prevent themselves from being charged.
