ADA Services

Dick Smith Library is committed to providing library resources and services for all patrons.  To achieve this goal, the library provides print and electronic resources, access services, technological tools, facilities, and personnel to assist patrons.

Resources & Access Services
The library can help you access print materials when warranted:

  •  Library staff can help you search for books, cassettes, periodicals, etc.
  •  Library staff can retrieve and hold items for you.

Many electronic resources and services are available off-campus:

Technological tools
Dick Smith Library offers a variety of technological tools to assist patrons:

  •  Wheelchair accessible computer workstations are located on each floor and in the Library Instruction Classroom.
  •  Assistive/adaptive software has been installed on wheelchair accessible workstations.
    -- Zoomtext is available on all floors of Dick Smith Library.
    -- Openbook and JAWS are also available on the library’s lower floor and in the Library Instruction Classroom.
  •  Headphones and laptops are available for patron use in the library.

The library web site is compatible with some additional assistive/adaptive technology:

  •  When needed, adjust the font size of the web pages.
    1) Hold down the Control (Ctrl) key and move the mouse wheel up or down.
    2) Use the Text Size option in the View menu.

Workstations with more advanced assistive/adaptive technology are available from the Office of Student Disability Services (254-968-9400).

Facilities
The parking area adjacent to the library offers several reserved handicapped parking spots.  See Parking Regulations and Campus Map for information about parking and access to Dick Smith Library.

The front entrance of Dick Smith Library is equipped with electronic door openers and a wheelchair ramp.  In addition, the back entrance loading platform is wheelchair accessible; ring the doorbell to gain entry.

Aisles and walkways in the library provide ample room for navigation and for access to materials.

Library personnel
Library staff members are readily available to assist patrons with their access and research needs.  Please call the circulation desk (254-968-9450) or reference desk (254-968-9249) for specific requests and/or additional information.
