SOCIAL SECURITY

 

To apply for a social security card, SEVIS records must be activated at least 48 hours before the student goes to the Social Security office. Applicants should be in the U.S. for more than 10 days before applying, which allows arrival data from port-of-entry to be entered in the database.

 

Applicants must have the proper documentation:

  • Completed Form SS-5 (application)
  • Two documents establishing age and identity (including passport and one additional document)
    • Form I-94
    • SEVIS Form I-20
  • Proof of employment offer on Department letterhead
    • Letter from director for proof of eligibility for on-campus employment and verifying that student is fulltime student in status

A Social Security agency will be at St. Brendan’s Church on West Washington in Stephenville, on the 2nd Wednesday of every month.
