All Tarleton State University account holders have limits on the amount of e-mail and files that can be left on the e-mail server. When the quota is exceeded new messages will be rejected and bounced back to the sender. For those using Webmail to process e-mail, it is recommended that messages be deleted from all folders including the deleted messages folder as soon as practical. It is important to remember that the quota is not based on the number of messages, but rather the total size that these messages take up on the server. One message sent out with a very large attachment can take up your entire quota. Delete such a message from your sent items folder and then delete it from the deleted messages folder.

Users may check their own VMS disk quota using NetTerm. After logging in to NetTerm, type show quota at the prompt and hit enter. If you see an overdraft amount you will need to delete messages from the server. Remember, deleting messages from your software e-mail client (Outlook Express, Eudora, etc.) will not correct the problem.

Exchange users also have quotas and should consider moving messages to a local personal folder to avoid possible Exchange quota problems. Deleting messages in Outlook does directly effect the Exchange disk quota unlike VMS users.
