National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA) - NFAA seeks out artistically accomplished young people throughout the United States and gives them national recognition through cash awards and scholarships. NFAA encourages artistic growth and career development through workshops, public performances and exhibitions, internships, underwriting of creative projects, and residency fellowships. Areas of interest: classical, jazz and popular music; voice; dance; film and video; photography; theater; visual arts; and writing.

Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation - Established in 1997, The Beckman Scholars Program is an invited program for accredited universities and four-year colleges in the United States. It provides scholarships that contribute signficantly in advancing the education, research training and personal development of select students in chemistry, biochemistry, and the biological and medical sciences. ($19,300 for two summers and one academic year.)

The Smithsonian Institution -- Fellowships are offered for pre- and post-doctoral study and research in residence at the Smithsonian for not less than six nor more than twelve months. Graduate student fellowships are availablefor ten-week periods under the guidance of Smithsonian staff members. Internships for Native American undergraduate and graduate students are available for periods of nine to twelve weeks during the summer or academic year and include stipends and travel allowance. Minority internships for junior and senior undergraduates and graduate students also are available for those interested in independent research or in participating in ongoing research of museum-related activities. The National Museum of Natural History's Research Training Program offers ten-week internships for 24-30 outstanding undergraduate students, selected from around the world.

Welder Wildlife Foundation Fellowships for Graduate Students -- Fellowships are offered to masters degree candidates in wildlife and wildlife-related academic areas including: animal behavior, biology, botany, conservation education, ecology, mammalogy, ornithology, parsitology, range science, veterninary pathology, and wildlife sciences. Scholarships are awarded directly to the university. The university is responsible for the competitive selection and supervision of fellowship recipients. Scholarship for a full-time student is $1,300 per month; student can't have any other form of financial assistance including a graduate teaching assistantship. Application deadline: October 1 for consideration for funding in the next calendar year.
