Course Objective:

Production technology will provide an overview and interaction of major of quality, tooling, workflow, safety, planning, human factors, systems and personal management involved in the manufacturing process.

Student Objectives

  1. Student will demonstrate their knowledge of tooling design concepts by producing working drawings of jigs and fixtures to address production needs
  2. Students will demonstrate their knowledge of human factors and work design by performing in-depth analysis of manufacturing processes and optimizing those processes to increase performance and reliability.
  3. Students will understand and explain  the concepts of project management and systems theory as they apply to a manufacturing system
  4. Students will demonstrate processing planning by identifying and procedurelizing the production process to create defined parts and products
  5. Students will demonstrate their understanding of quality as system to control the production process and a from a inspection standpoint
  6. Students will demonstrate skills necessary to function in a team environment while design and producing and using a manufacturing system.

Topics that will be covered

  1. Introduction to Manufacturing Engineering
  2. Team dynamics
  3. Manufacturing processes
  4. Process planning

Lab Performance

Student Participation in lab is absolutely mandatory.  Students who do not participate in lab will not receive a passing grade. Because of the nature of the course students may spend different amounts of time in lab each week.  However, at the beginning of the scheduled lab each student must sign in the attendance book located in the lab and should not leave with approval of either the instructor or the team leader. Lab will begin on the specified day at 1:00 and end at 5:00.

Items Required for Class

The Following items will be required for class / lab

  1. ANSI Z87 approved safety glasses
  2. Closed Shoes

ACADEMIC CONDUCT

Each student is expected to do his/her own work independently.  Any Incident of Academic Dishonesty will be reported to the Head of the Engineering Technology department and to the Dean of Students.  Academic Dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, cheating on an examination or academic work, plagiarism, collusion, unauthorized use of technology, coping drawing files from on student to another or unauthorized collaboration between student that is deemed excessive by the instructor, i.e., two students doing one drawing and handing it in with different names.  Appropriate sanctions, both University and Academic, will be applied for each incident of dishonesty.  A copy of the University policy and possible sanctions is available in the Student Handbook and the departmental office.

LEARNING DISABILITY

Students who think that they may have a learning disability should contact the ADA compliance officer for Tarleton State University in the office of Academic Affairs before any class modification is granted.

CLASS ATTENDANCE

1.      Class attendance is extremely important, especially in courses dealing with technical information and skills.

2.      Attendance will be checked in Class and Lab.  LAB ATTENDANCE IS ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY.

MISSED EXAMS

1.      Any exam missed must be taken before the next meeting of the class unless prior arrangements are made with the instructor.

2.      Any exam not made up will be recorded as a zero.

3.      It is the student’s responsibility to schedule the make-up exam, not the instructor’s.

MAKE-UP WORK /LATE WORK

1.      It is the responsibility of the student to make up all work missed due to excused absences within one week of it’s original due date

2.      No work will be accepted if it is turned in more than one week after the due date unless previous arrangements have been made with the instructor.
