Finding
Programs in Microsoft Windows XP
On most computer desktops
you will find "Icons" that serve as shortcuts to commonly
used programs and files. By double-clicking the icon you can quickly
open an application or program. While several program links do appear
on your desktop, it is by no means an exhaustive list of programs found
on your computer.
If you wish to open a program
that does not have a shortcut on the desktop, you will need to look
in the "Programs" section of the "Start Menu." To
do this, click on the Start button located at the bottom
left of the screen. Point to All Programs and a pop-up
menu will appear listing all the productivity software programs found
on the computer.

Next, open Internet
Explorer by clicking on it (but before you do, read the paragraph
below). If a new window opens showing the Education Lab Homepage then
you are ready to move on to the next section. Be sure you keep the new
window open in the background, you will need it for the next section.
When the new window opens
it may cover up this page. To bring this window back to the foreground
click on the "Finding Programs" button located on the bottom
tool bar.
