Overview

Imagine you enter a time machine and travel forward in time fifty years. Can you imagine how things have changed? What would a hospital be like? cars? computers? What about schools? Imagine how disappointed you would be if you walked into the school of the future and saw a teacher standing at the front of the room, chalk in hand, writing on the board while lecturing on a topic. The students, sitting in rows of desks, taking down notes on paper and referencing illustration in their textbooks.

With the exception of the addition of a VCR, one or two PCs, and a Television, very little has changed in the typical classroom since the 1950s. While we do not expect you to single handedly bring education into the 21st century, we do hope that you will be an advocate of technology and successfully use it in your classroom. If you are enrolled in this lab, you have already taken a step in the right direction. We hope this tutorial can help you along the way.

The purpose of this tutorial is to help you become familiar with the technology used on a daily basis in the Education Lab.

In this tutorial you will:

  • learn how to log on/off of the network,
  • find and start programs in Windows XP,
  • navigate around the PD1 web site,
  • print a copy of the syllabus, and
  • use your student e-mail as an effective communication tool.

Notice: You are responsible for reading and abiding by Tarleton's Network Acceptable Use Policy.
